The Cardinal Shehan Center has been enriching the lives of children and families in the Greater Bridgeport Area for over 50 years. Here are just a few of the educational and recreational programs that we offer to fulfill our mission of enriching lives through learning.

"Financial Skills to Pay the Bills" Program

Providing high school students with financial literacy training: managing  money, creating budgets, interactive sessions on savings, investing, debt, and credit. 

Counselor in Training (CIT) Program

CIT Program is now offered during the school as well as in the summer. The Program is designed to help entering high school students prepare for the work force. 


After School & Saturday Program

The After School and Saturday Program runs weekday afternoons from 2:30 pm to 5:00 pm and on Saturdays from 10:00 pm to 2:00 pm. Members of this program are able to take advantage of everything that is offered at the Center, while having a fun, safe place to hang out with friends.


The main goal of the Aquatic Program at the Cardinal Shehan Center is to have as many children and adults experience the fun of the water, while being as safe and prepared as possible.

Boys High School Basketball Leagues

 The Cardinal Shehan Center hosts two separate high school basketball leagues throughout the year. They are held during the fall and summer seasons. This league is generally constructed of teams representing their local high schools. 

NECYO Tournament 2016

 The NECYO Tournament consists of nine Diocese throughout the New England Region. Teams from Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, & New Hampshire will be participating. The tournament will be held April 1-3 in the Bridgeport Area. 

Physical Education

The Center provides the staff, equipment, and facility to five parochial schools and three alternative education programs throughout the year.

 The Cardinal Shehan Program Staff strives to provide a quality experience for each of our members. Along with a quality experience comes quality equipment and supplies. 

Regional Diocesan Basketball Tournament

Each winter the Cardinal Shehan hosts the Regional Diocesan Tournament which is open to ANY School or Parish that is associated with the Bridgeport Diocese. The winner of this tournament hosts the Bridgeport Diocese in the NECYO Tournament. The NECYO Tournament will be hosted by the Cardinal Shehan Center in 2016 from April 1-3. 

Shehan Center Travel Teams

 The Cardinal Shehan Center has 5 travel teams for the 2015-16 Season. They have 2 Girls and 3 Boys Teams ranging from 5th to 8th grade. These teams play in Shehan Center Winter Basketball League as well as various tournaments and games throughout the winter. 

Spring Basketball League The Spring Basketball Program is designed for players in Kindergarten all the way to 12th Grade. League will be broken down into three divisions based on Grade.

Summer Basketball Camp

To build character- to teach the right way! Fundamental basketball is a lost art. What you will learn from the Shehan Center's Basketball Camp is to gain an understanding of the sport, learn various skills and drills to be successful. 

Summer Day Camp

The Summer Day Camp runs for seven weeks during the summer. Each weekday from 9 am to 3 pm kids will be exposed to both traditional camp activities such as field sports and arts and crafts, as well as educational activities, performing arts, basketball and field trips.

Vacation Week

When school is out, some to the Center to enjoy computers, library time, basketball, organized activities in the gym, swimming, arts and crafts, game room, cooking class, and much more during our Vacation Week programs.

Winter Basketball League

 The Winter Basketball League consists of teams of local schools, parishes, and independent teams. Games are played throughout the week from the Middle of October until January. League will conclude with an end of season tournament for the top teams.
