Cardinal Shehan Center Receives Grant from the Fairfield County Community Foundation Grant to Benefit the Center’s Summer Camp Program

Bridgeport, CT, May 1, 2009 - - Continuing with its rich tradition of responding to the needs of the community and funding non-profit organizations, the Fairfield County Community Foundation on April 27, 2009, awarded the Cardinal Shehan Center a grant in the amount of $10,000.00 to support its Summer Day Camp Program for Bridgeport’s youth.

Terry O’Connor, the Center’s Executive Director, states, “The Cardinal Shehan Center is grateful to be a recipient of this grant from the Fairfield County Community Foundation. We appreciate the Foundation’s support in recognizing and funding quality summer camp programs, like the Cardinal Shehan Center’s.  The funding will help to provide scholarships to needy families to attend our Summer Day Camp Program.” 

The Foundation’s Program Director for education and youth development grantmaking, Dorcas Blue, remarked, “The Foundation is committed to supporting beneficial out-of-school time opportunities for youth in Fairfield County.  The Cardinal Shehan Center is a wonderful partner in this effort because the staff combines effective academic enrichment with high quality arts and recreation activities.”

The Cardinal Shehan Center will offer a six week summer day camp to meet the needs of families.  The program starts on June 29 and runs through August 7.  Educational and recreational activities such as Money skills for Life, Little Scientist Program, writing, computer workshops, tutoring, swimming, golfing, cooking, theatrical performance and more are offered.   To register your child, please contact the Center’s Camp Director, Daryl Woods, at (203) 336-4468.
